Seeing the light....

this photography blog thing will only work if it doesn't take 3 days to upload a 100k photo.

unfortunately paradise has a very slow internet connection, despite the interesting bonuses of hippos and leopards wandering the streets at night (no more threatening than Guildhall walk in Portsmouth mind you) Broadband and running water will never be taken forgranted again and I'm learning exactly how many days I can wear the same t-shirt before people actually start crossing the road to avoid me.

a dog's life

wild dogs trump giraffes I mutter excitedly as a text comes through to say they are at the pan. A change of speed and gears leaves me pining slightly for my sports bra as I'm thrown around the back of the 4x4. It takes a frantically long 10 minutes in the rain before we are rewarded with soggy African wild dogs including soggy puppies. It wasn't one of those rare arse-glimpses when you arrive just as the animal is disappearing into distant dense undergrowth. We watched them chasing and fighting in the rain, huddle and shake the water off. One or two came up and sniffed the car, close enough to jump in. They have the best ears ever.

waiting for my fur

It's all very well deciding to dress up as a LEMUR and do a sponsored walk, but the supply and demand of Lemur outfits has not fallen in my favour and it seems that I may have to adapt a vaguely me-shaped big piece of fur into a vaguely lemur-shaped piece of fur with me in it. The fur may have been dispatched (good old ebay) but has yet to make it to me. I sense a bit of sewing ahead which is almost as daunting as 6 weeks checking my socks for large scorpions. I'm starting to wish I'd been a good girl in needlework at school rather than being 'moved' out after the anti-sexism-I-want-to-do-woodwork protest.
